Dear Colleague:

In my role as WFPMA Secretary General/Treasurer, it is my pleasure to share with you the latest issue of WorldLink focused on Latin America and the member nations of the Inter-American Federation of People Management Associations (FIDAGH). While we bring you the latest HR developments in Latin America, we also pause to remember our good friend and WFPMA Board member, Chatphong Wongsuk, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12. Please take a moment to read his memorial on page 2 as we pay tribute to Chatphong's contribution to global HR and to the WFPMA.

This issue also includes coverage of:

  • A call to action by Fernando Ariceta, president of FIDAGH.
  • An interview with the president of the HR Executive Circle in Chile about the honor of hosting the 15th Annual WFPMA World Congress on People Management.
  • An article on why providing work-life balance solutions is beneficial to everyone, what barriers exist and how some countries have made progress.
  • Spotlight on a new HR model in Brazil as well as the state of occupational health in Peru.
  • HR-related developments in Latin America.

We trust that you will find this issue of WorldLink, which is available on the WFPMA web site www.wfpma.org, timely and informative.  Please forward it to the members in your association and post it on your association’s website. We also look forward to seeing you in Melbourne, Australia, in a few weeks at the WFPMA World Congress. Visit http://www.hrizon.com.au/ for all the updated details.

Together with WFPMA President Horacio E. Quirós of Argentina, we reiterate our appreciation to the full 2010-2012 WFPMA Board of Directors for their leadership and commitment to developing valuable regional and global HR networks among our respective associations.

We wish to thank Rosaura Barrera in her role serving as the WFPMA Secretariat at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and to Adrienne Fox, WorldLink Editor, for delivering a cohesive report on HR developments in Latin America. The next issue of WorldLink will cover HR developments in the Asia Pacific Federation of HRM (APFHRM), including a report on the World Congress. If you have story ideas for your regional issue, or events you would like to add to the Calendar, you may contact Adrienne at afox@pointcs.com.

Warmest professional and personal regards,

Pieter Haen
WFPMA Secretary General/Treasurer
