Dear Colleague

It is my pleasure to present to you the April 2010 WFPMA newsletter WorldLink for you to distribute to your member associations and their members. As always, you can access this issue and past ones via the WFPMA web site www.wfpma.org

We begin this issue with a report on the Middle East, starting with an informative article on HR's shifted priorities in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. An article follows on the status of female workforce participation rates in the Gulf Cooperation Council states and how telecommuting policies can help increase those rates.

On page 4, WorldLink interviews Leovigildo Canto Pérez, president of the Interamerican Federation of People Management

Associations (FIDAGH), about how developing relationships among the member associations has informed his agenda. We also highlight the findings of a recent global survey, What Senior HR Leaders Need to Know: Perspectives from the United States, Canada, India, the Middle East and North Africa, conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management (United States) in partnership with the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations and SHRM India.

James Longwell, global learning and development director at Cadbury Plc, discusses how the confectionery company's leadership development program, which partners with community organizations, improves leaders' skills while helping non-profit organizations. On page 5, he highlights a recent partnership between Cadbury's emerging leaders in Canada, the United States and Mexico and the Greater Newark Conservancy in New Jersey.

A tale of HR evolution in Ghana is told through the eyes of Irene Asiedu, HR manager at TechnoServe Ghana. On page 6, she relays her story of winning support from senior executives while proving the value of HR input on business decisions.

"HR News Around the World" on page 7 compiles the latest global HR news you need to do your job and to keep you informed. As always, plan your next educational and networking opportunity using the HR Calendar on the last page. Don’t forget to register for the 2010 World Congress in Montreal, Canada, in September at www.HR2010.com. The Ordre des Conseillers en Resources Humaines Agréés has put together a great program.

I want to thank once again WorldLink editor Adrienne Fox as well as Rosaura Barrera at SHRM for their collaboration in the publication of this issue.

Until next time, we hope you find this issue of WorldLink interesting and informative. Please feel free to forward it to your members and/or to post it on your association web site.

Warmest regards,

Horacio Quiros
WFPMA Secretary General/Treasurer
