WorldLink august 2011

TO:
WFPMA Board Members
WFPMA Country Associations and their Members

Dear Colleague:

In my role as WFPMA Secretary General/Treasurer, it is my pleasure to share with you the August 2011 WorldLink issue, which has as its focus the North American region and the member countries of the North American Human Resource Management Associations (NAHRMA). We extend our thanks to all who contributed articles or helped coordinate other features.

This issue includes coverage of:

  • The U.S. Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is currently working with the International Standards Organization (ISO) to create global standards of practice in human resources. Read about the progress on this effort as well as how any HR practitioner around the world can get involved and help shape the HR standards.
  • Beginning on page 2, read about the SHRM 63rd Annual Conference & Exposition held in June as well as the Society’s new president and CEO, Henry “Hank” Jackson.
  • From Mexico, hear the story of how one company in the challenged tourism industry has triumphed in the face of many obstacles to retain employees and grow them into leaders.
  • The British Columbia Human Resources Management Association (BC HRMA) in Canada has developed a subscription-based metrics benchmarking service for companies. On page 5, learn about the success of this service as well as interesting trends BC HRMA has discovered from the data.
  • Reaching out to and integrating indigenous peoples of a country is beneficial to any company. Find out, on page 6, how the Aboriginal Human Resource Council accomplishes this mission in Canada and how its strategies can be adopted by other HR associations.
  • HR-related developments in Canada, Mexico and the United States on page 7.

We trust that you will find this issue of WorldLink, which is available on the WFPMA website, www.wfpma.org, timely and informative. Please forward it to the members of your association and post it on your association’s website. Together with the WFPMA President, Horacio E. Quiros of Argentina, we reiterate our appreciation of the full 2011-2012 WFPMA Board of Directors for their leadership and commitment to developing valuable regional and global HR networks among our respective associations. We hope to see you soon at one of the HR events listed on the Calendar on page 8.

We wish to thank SHRM in its role as WFPMA Secretariat and to Adrienne Fox, WorldLink editor, for delivering a cohesive report on HR developments in the North American region.  The next issue of WorldLink will focus on the African Federation of HR Management Associations (AFHRMA) and HR news in Africa. If you have story ideas for this region or any other, please contact Adrienne Fox at afox@pointcs.com.

Warmest professional and personal regards,

Pieter Haen
